Reviewing the New-Old Land Rover Defender V8 Trophy

Saying goodbye can be difficult. With Land Rover launching a new version of the Defender that was officially discontinued five years ago, it seems particularly difficult to differentiate it from its popular model. This is the Limited Edition Defender Works V8 Trophy.

Let’s not take it for an alternative to the new and much more advanced Defender that was released last year. The Works V8 Trophy Rover is the latest installment by Land Rover Classic Division, with the limited run of 25 years. In other words, they are after-sales conversions. Both short-wheelbase two-door 90 and long-wheelbase four-door 110 station wagons will be manufactured, which will produce 99h horsepower and 937 pound-feet of torque derived from the naturally aspiring V-version of the R0-aspiring JLR. An eight-speed automatic gearbox will also be standard, something the factory original defender doesn't have.

The obvious difference between the Works V8 and the Works V8 Trophy is the new yellow canvas car that mimics the Camel Trophy introduced by Land Rover between 1980 and 2000, quipped a Land Rover service expert.

Tobacco sponsorship is clearly gone. The Eastner Yellow paint is the biggest visual homage to those Camel Trophy Landies, with full LED headlights, traditional windshields, lots of trophy badges and 16-inch steel wheels. However, the texture is enhanced with substantial external roll cage, underbody protection and electric winch. The interior is upholstered in leather, with custom watches and Recaro sports seats (Players can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds.) Other basic mechanical changes to the Defender include larger brakes and new telescopic dampers.

Unfortunately, the Works V8 Trophy isn’t sold here to US buyers because the Defender was initially rejected by the federal government. For US buyers looking for a used Defender, there are several options though that they can legally import. British tuner Twisted GM produces a version with a 6.2-liter V8 engine and an all-electric version.

If COVID restrictions allow, a three-day adventure will delight Eastner Castle owners later this year. Dan Pink, Director of Land Rover Classic, said: “The Land Rover Defender is more than just a vehicle and is famous for its technical strength and off-roading capabilities.

Overall, it’s an amazing vehicle. To keep it in good working condition, be sure to bring it in for Land Rover Greensboro NC inspection and repair.

Car Features That Manufacturers Need to Remove

Land Rover Greensboro

A car features a wide variety of components. However, not all components are up to mark or useful. Many components are downright useless. You may wonder why they are there when you do fairly well without them. Let’s have a look.

Rear-seat entertainment systems

Rear seat entertainment systems were very common in the 1990s and 2000s. With the advent of bullets, smartphones and Wi-Fi access points, the value of these expensive systems has decreased.

Paddle shifters

The paddle shifters are ideal for high performance cars. Drivers can quickly change gears without taking their hands off the steering wheel. This comes in handy when dividing the racetrack in a McLaren 720S or Ferrari 488. It certainly won't help much in your Toyota Camry family sedan or crossover SUV.

Third-row seats in compact crossover SUVs

The small SUV market is booming. It is one of the five cars currently sold in the United States. As a result, some brands have added a third tier to differentiate themselves from their competitors. However, like the second generation Volkswagen Tiguan seats, the three row seats are scarcely available. It is usually very thin and suitable only for little children. However, the second row needs to be moved forward, which can also affect passenger comfort.

Social media integration

Over the past few years, we have become more addicted to social media hub. Facebook, Twitter and Instagram are the integral parts of our lives. Automakers naturally wanted to use social network integration as a POS for entertainment systems. But honestly, do we really need to tweet while driving down the highway? No.

Voice control

Voice recognition has been used in ordinary cars for over 20 years. In most cases, a voice recognition system was not required. They are heavy to use and what they say doesn't make sense. To be honest, they've made a lot of progress over the years, but it's still bad. If you may want to improve this feature in your Land Rover, bring it in at nearby Land Rover Greensboro NC auto shop to remove it.

Head-up display

Head-up display (HUD) is used more. We've seen everything from luxury Audi cars to compact modern crossovers. The HUD system looks good, but it is not very useful, especially as it displays modern digital devices.

Digital shifter

Automakers across the country are starting to use new electronic gears to replace traditional PRND arm designs. Unfortunately, most of these converters are difficult and imprecise to use.

Touchpad controllers

Automakers have used entertainment systems in a variety of ways, from touch screens to turntables. But the touchpad controller is what you may hate the most. Despite the capacitive feedback, the touchpad is still very inaccurate and unsafe to use while driving. To make your touchpad more efficient, bring your car in at Land Rover Greensboro.

Touchscreen air vent controls

Porsche Panamera is one of the most popular luxury/sports sedans on the market. Emerging as a 2017 car, Panamera's electronic air intake control is both interesting and cumbersome concept in day-to-day life. If you need to go to the entertainment system submenu and adjust the valve, you encounter unnecessary steps that were previously very simple tasks.

Gesture control

The concept of gesture control is very interesting. Reach out to answer a call or slide your finger to adjust the volume - Not very useful. All gesture control functions are available at the push of a button on the steering wheel or dashboard. Of course, both options are easy to use and you don't have to make gestures wildly while driving.

How to Fit a Land Rover Steering Damper

Land Rover Greensboro
A steering damper is a shock absorber for your steering, all live axle Land Rovers are equipped with steering damper to control vibrations and feedback caused by large diameter tires. The perimeter of the tire determines the efficiency of the steering damper.

Usually, it takes 20 minutes to complete. For the job, all you need is 17 mm socket, 17mm spanner, and WD40 or similar. The steering damper is not an expensive part. While the standard damper is available at £10, a gas version can be obtained at £20-£30. If you want to go all out, then the top of the range steering dampers are around £50-£70. Find more information regarding the price from Land Rover Greensboro NC auto body shop.

Removing the Steering Damper:

There’s no need to even jack the car up to get at the steering damper. It’s just behind the front bumper in the middle of the car.

It’s held in place by a nut on the end of the damper at the chassis end, and a bolt on the other end. You can easily undo the nuts and bolts to remove the steering damper.

While undoing the nut on the chassis end, the outer casing of the damper will start to turn. All you need to do is grab hold of the casing to stop it turning and the nut will be removed in the end.

Fitting the new Steering Bumper:

Fitting is the reverse of removal. Do up the 2 bolts at either end of the steering damper. It’s simple job, it can be done in no time.

No matter how much your other suspension bushes are worn, you can feel an instant improvement in the steering response. Try it off road, but for £20 its a good start to the suspension/steering overhaul.

If you are not confident at doing it on your own, bring your vehicle in Land Rover service center. The expert technicians can easily change your steering dumper. Once the damper is replaced, feel the difference instantly. The coil-over spring compresses and stretches from lock to lock dramatically reducing the return to center effort, the spring also works in harmony with the damper eliminating shimmy and vibration.
