Consumer Reports Survey: Most & Least Reliable Cars

Want a reliable car? Have some patience.

It might sound unreasonable, but the latest redesigned car model may not be as much impressive in terms of performance and command on the road as versions that emerge a year or two later when the early flaws have been worked out.

Though redesigned vehicles and brand-new models often generate social media buzz and become the talk of the town, the old beauties are typically more likely to command the road.

While opting for redesigning vehicles, you may for sure expect better fuel economy, improved safety, and potentially better features. However, when it comes to reliability, give yourself at least a year of two until those initial growing kinks have been worked out.

The annual Consumer Reports Auto Reliability in the US features 420,000 cars from its members in its most recent survey, from model years 2000 to 2020. Let’s check out!

  • 2020 Chevrolet Traverse — Reliability Score: 18
  • 2020 Chrysler Pacifica — Reliability Score: 16
  • 2020 Tesla Model X — Reliability Score: 15
  • 2020 Acura MDX — Reliability Score: 15
  • 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan — Reliability Score: 15
